God Thoughts - 2007/03/11 19:47 Let's start a thread for "God Thoughts" or "Deep Thoughts". A place to share what God is teaching us or inspirational things we have read or heard. An example would be like what Mandy shared here http://www.venuecoffeehouse.com/blogs/worry-shmurry.html
That way we will know exactly where to go if we want to share something or need something inspirational to give us a lift.

Re:God Thoughts - 2007/03/11 22:27 Here is one for you....

I believe that in all things we are to look for the God moments. For instance. I am feeling a little under the weather. For me that is unusual. I am generally not a sickly person. I believe I have what some would call a severe sinus infection with fever and the whole shebang. I got to thinking about it and a thought came up out of the recesses (Holy Spirit). Here is my thought process:

1. I feel strange not natural...something is coming
2. I definately do not feel good
3. My snot is copious and green like radioactive sludge
4. My head might explode from the pressure
5. I am dealing with it
6. I can still do stuff (i.e. shopping, visiting)
7. Enough medicine and I can cope

Do you see the process? In the beginning it was foreign. It was not my natural state, it is not my M.O. (mode of operation). But as I have dealt with my illness and found ways to cope, I was able to return to life as close to normal as possible.

Sin works a lot the same way. I fear that we, all of us, go through life just living with this illness. We have found the medicine that helps us cope. Bringing it closer to home, our medicine is church. We get our little Jesus anitbiotic on sunday and feel like we can muster enough spiritual energy to make it through the sin of the week. The thing is we are able to only muster up enough uumphff to just get by. How many of us just get by? The Bible is very clear on this point. IF we are in Christ, we are no longer a slave to sin. Translation...We have the vaccine! We are no longer susceptible to that disease. Why is it then that I get so mired down in it all the time? I think it is this...we have become so used to living with the disease, that wellness feels unnatural.

I can't wait to wake up one of these mornings without a temperature, without gobs of crusty boogers. I can't wait to feel normal again so that I can fully enjoy my family. Sin only allows you to enjoy life on a very limited and temporal scale. A life free from sin is a life that can be enjoyed fully, the way it was meant to. (john 10:10)

Just my thoughts...

-A

Re:God Thoughts - 2007/03/11 23:21 That is really good Andy!
I was reading some Watchman Nee. He talks about the idea of us being dead to sin. He puts it like this:

During the struggle he (the christian) must never forget the position of the cross. He must stand on Romans 6.11, reckoning himself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. He already has died and has therefore been delivered from the old creation. The evil spirits cannot now do anything in his life, for what ground of operation they had has hitherto been taken away on the cross. Each time the Christian exercises his mind and resists the devil he is depending completely on what the cross has accomplished. He perceives that his death with the Lord is a fact; hence he strongly maintains that position before the enemy. He has died; the evil spirits have no authority over a dead person. Pharaoh could not hurt the children of Israel who were on the other side of the Red Sea. Resting on the Lord's death gives the Christian an immense advantage.
Last time I kicked something dead...it didn't kick back. We have died to sin...we stand on the other side of the cross from it! Sin can strike at us, but we are out of its reach.
